To create an event, open **Publish an event** in the menu, then tap **Add and manage registrations** (full management) or **Add only to calendar** (simple listing). You can also start from a past edition with the **Clone** button.

## Choose the type of event

The **Add an event** page has two buttons in the **Create an event** block:

| Button | Use |
| --- | --- |
| **Add and manage registrations** | Competitors register and pay on Canicompet. You get all the tools: races, payments, documents, start lists, results. |
| **Add only to calendar** | The event appears in the calendar, with a **Url to Register** pointing to your own website. Entries are not managed on Canicompet. |

Adding an event is free in both cases.

> **TIP**
A calendar-only event can switch to full management later. In its dashboard, tap **Activate registrations**. See [Use the dashboard and publish your event](/en/docs/organizer/dashboard-publish/).

## Create a new event

1. Open **Publish an event** in the menu.
2. Under **Create an event**, tap **Add and manage registrations** or **Add only to calendar**.
3. Fill in the **General Information** section:
   - **Type**: **Competition** or **Interclub**;
   - **Federation**: the federation of the race; it sets which races and categories are available;
   - **Name**: shown in the calendar and in communications;
   - **Language**: the language you write your texts in; visitors who speak another language are offered an automatic translation;
   - the organizing clubs;
   - **Managers**: the people who can edit the event, download the entrants and validate documents;
   - **Postal code** of the race venue;
   - **Timing method**.
4. Enter the **Dates**: **Start** and **End** of the event.
5. Enter the contact details:
   - **Url to Register** (calendar-only events only);
   - **Email**: the sender address of emails sent on behalf of the event, which also receives replies;
   - **Contact**: the contact details shown to competitors.
6. If the **Description** field is shown, enter your text. Otherwise, you will write the description later from the dashboard.
7. Under **Poster**, tap **Choose file** to add an image or a PDF.
8. Tap the round save button at the bottom right.

Once the event is created, you land on its dashboard. The event is not visible to the public yet: you need to publish it.

> **NOTE**
Tap a field's label to show help that explains what it does.

### Available timing methods

| Option | Meaning |
| --- | --- |
| **Manual with Canichrono** | Manual timing with the free Canichrono software. |
| **Chipped with Canichrono** | Chip timing with Canichrono. |
| **Manual** | Manual timing with another tool. |
| **Chipped, automatic** | Automatic chip timing with another tool. |
| **Other method** | Any other setup. |

## Clone a past edition

Cloning creates a new event from an old one: settings, races, meals, accommodation and forms are copied, along with the original dates. The copy is not published.

1. Open **Publish an event** in the menu.
2. Under **My past events**, find the event to copy.
3. Tap the **Clone** button (copy icon) on its row.
4. Confirm with **Duplicate**.
5. A message confirms: "Copied event. Don't forget to update the dates so that it appears in the correct place in the calendar." Tap OK.
6. You land on the general information of the copy. Change the dates, then save.

> **CAUTION**
After cloning, also check the dates of the races and runs, and the registration opening dates. The dashboard shows a warning if some races are dated before the event.

## Find an event you are preparing

Your upcoming events appear under **My future events**, on the **Add an event** page. Tap one to open its dashboard.
