The words of the race

Canicross, mushing and Canicompet terms, in one sentence each.

Bikejoring
A discipline where the dog pulls a mountain bike through a towline.
Bib number
Number worn by the participant, used to identify them at the start, the finish and in the results.
Calendar-only race
On Canicompet, a race shown on the map and calendar whose entries are taken elsewhere, on the organizer’s website.
Canicross
Running with a dog connected to the runner by an elastic towline, the dog pulling ahead.
Canicross walking
Brisk walking with a harnessed dog, using the same equipment as canicross.
Canitrail
Canicross on a trail course, longer and more technical, in natural terrain.
Day licence
A temporary licence valid for a single race, offered to non-members for a surcharge.
Dog health sheet
A document summarizing the identification and vaccinations of a team’s dogs, required by some races.
Fees included / fees added
On Canicompet, the organizer’s choice: the online payment service fee is deducted from their revenue (included) or paid on top by the competitor (added).
Harness
Pulling harness worn by the dog, designed to spread the pulling effort without hindering breathing.
Heat (run)
One of the runs of a race held in several parts (for example Saturday and Sunday); times are added up.
Live results
Results published during the race, as participants finish.
Medical certificate
A medical document confirming no contraindication to competitive sport, required by some races instead of a licence.
Microchip
A subcutaneous chip identifying the dog with a unique number, often required to enter.
Musher
A person who drives a team of sled dogs.
Nordic dog
A dog of a Nordic breed (husky, malamute, Greenland dog…). Some races have classes or rules specific to Nordic dogs.
Overall ranking
Ranking of all participants in a race by time, across all categories.
Race (épreuve)
On Canicompet, a specific race within an event (distance, discipline, category), with its price and entries.
Relay
A race run by a team whose members follow one another; the team time is the sum of the legs.
Scootering
A discipline where one or two dogs pull an off-road scooter.
Skijoring
Cross-country skiing pulled by one or two dogs attached to the skier’s belt.
Sled dog racing
A discipline where several harnessed dogs pull a rig (on dirt) or a sled (on snow), driven by a musher.
Start list
Order and start times of participants, with their bib numbers.
Towline
Elastic line connecting the dog’s harness to the runner’s belt, the bike or the scooter.
Vaccination passport
On Canicompet, all vaccinations recorded for a dog with their dates, checked by organizers.
Waiting list
Queue of competitors who registered after all places were taken; a freed place is offered in order.
Wave start
Participants start in successive groups rather than all together, to limit dog overtaking at the start.
