Event types and race formats

On Canicompet, an event contains one or more races, and each race contains one or more runs. The type of each race (canicross, bikejoring, kart…) is picked from the list of the event’s federation and belongs to one of the families described below.

Level Example What you set there
Event “Spring Canicross” Dates, location, organizers, entries, payments
Race Short canicross, CaniVTT Type, price, number of dogs, required documents, number of places
Run Saturday 10 am, Sunday 9 am Start and end date and time, distance, description

As the app puts it: “A race can have several tests. For example if your race takes place on two days with a cumulative podium then it is a race with two events.” In this documentation, these “tests” are called runs.

Technical value Label Use
race Competition A race with entries, start lists and results. This is the usual case.
interclub Interclub A meeting between clubs.
race_online Online race A remote race: each competitor enters their own result from My registrations with Enter the result.

You choose the type in the Type field when you create the event. It offers Competition and Interclub. Other technical values exist for specific features (training sessions, courses) and are not covered here.

Each race type defined by a federation belongs to a family, used in particular for statistics. The existing families are:

How to create races is explained in Create races and their runs.

When you create the event, the Timing method field says how the race will be timed. For free timing on a computer, choose Manual with Canichrono, see Time your race for free. The Manual and Other method options suit you if you time the race another way. You can then import the results in CSV format.
