Timing on race day

On race day, Canichrono records the time each competitor crosses the finish line and links it to their bib. The race time is calculated from the start time set in the start list. You can fix entries in the software until you send the results, and even afterwards by sending them again.

  • Download the latest version of the entry file, see Get your entries and start lists, and open it in Canichrono.
  • Check that the computer’s clock is right: start and finish times are times of day.
  • Keep a printed start list (Export then Excel in Prepare the start lists) in case something breaks down.
  • If you publish live, check that the computer has Internet access at the finish line.

Each competitor starts at the time shown in the start list, alone or in a wave, depending on how you generated it. If an actual start differs from the planned time, correct that competitor’s start time: their race time is calculated from it.

A competitor who does not show up at the start has no finish time, so they get no time in the rankings.

Each time someone crosses the line, a finish time is recorded and then linked to the competitor’s bib. The race time is the difference between the finish time and the start time.

Tips for a busy finish:

  • split the work between two people: one records the crossings, the other calls out or writes down the bibs in finishing order;
  • keep a paper sheet with the finishing order and bibs at the same time, so you can check and correct;
  • check regularly that no crossing is left without a bib.

Fix a wrong bib, a duplicate finish or a wrong start time directly in Canichrono. Until you send the results, Canicompet does not know about them.

After sending, fix the mistake in the software and send the results again. Each new upload replaces all results already loaded for the event. See Send results to Canicompet.

If the computer is online, Canichrono can publish the results on Canicompet as competitors finish.

  1. In the event dashboard, Results section, open Publish live results.
  2. Tap Copy link to view live results and share this link with spectators and competitors, even before the race.
  3. Turn on live publishing in Canichrono.

When live results are on, entrants get a notification and the event page shows the live results until the final results are published.
